Red Coconut Villa is located in the calmer part of Bentota, just around 100 meters from the beach.
You’ll find small local shops, restaurants, and everything you need within walking distance, while Bentota center is only a short tuk tuk ride away.
The location is ideal for guests who prefer a quiet, relaxed atmosphere close to the beach — without the noise of larger hotels.

Check-out is until 11 am. Late check-out may be possible depending on availability.

Dinner is prepared fresh each day, and we recommend booking in advance, especially for sushi and sashimi, which are available by pre-order.
It is not a walk-in restaurant — but a dining experience worth planning for.

Beach
Across the road ~100m walking distance to a virgin beach. Beach Bars, Sun beds are available at the beach. When you return there is a shower right at the entrance for your sandy feet and an outdoor shower right next to it with pool towels & sun lotion.
Beach bonfire & picnic. Can be arranged, by availability
Mosquito Precautions
Mosquitoes may appear around 5 pm. We recommend using repellents, mosquito nets, or a fan to keep them away. Citronella and Soffell are available locally.
Keep nets closed at night; fans help. Mosquito come in evenings. There are more in rain season. Citronella spray for your comfort available at the restaurant.
Pets
Our friendly, street-rescued dogs and cats are part of the Red Coconut family. Let us know if you’re unsure around animals, and we’ll make sure you’re comfortable.

We accept cash and card payments.
Please note that the bank charges a 3% fee for card transactions, which will be added to your bill.
Pool hours
Enjoy the pool from sunrise until midnight. Please respect other guests when using the facilities. Rinse off in our outdoor shower before entering the pool.
Transfer from/to airport
We can arrange for a special guest rate.
Tip is not a town in China!

Rooms are cleaned during breakfast. Need fresh towels or bedsheets? Just tell us. To conserve, we only replace them on request.

Adjustable A/C is available in all rooms. Please turn off A/C and lights when leaving to conserve energy. If the A/C isn’t cooling properly, please tell us —we’ll fix it right away. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Beach blanket:
You’ll find a beach blanket on your terrace. Feel free to take it to the beach, use it by the pool to lay on, or wrap yourself in it after a swim.

Extra pool towels are available.
Swimming:
Sunrise to midnight (late-night swimming at your own risk and with respect for other guests). If you’d like to swim late, just inform us and we’ll set the pool lights for you. Watch the stars and fireflies between the palm tree leaves at full Moon.
Bookshelf
Please enjoy our books for reading during your stay. It’s a private collection, not a shop—books are not for sale or removal. Kindly handle with care and return them to the shelf. Feel free to leave your books with us for other guests to enjoy You find the shelf in the yoga shala. Thank you!

Card games, Backgammon, Abalone, Monopoly, Tabu and more—feel free to use, handle with care, and enjoy. You find it in the wooden box in the restaurant and on the shelf.

GETTING AROUND
Tuk-Tuks
We finally have our own Tuk Tuk, if you need to go around.
Tuk-tuks are easy to hail on the street. If you prefer, we can call one for you or arrange a car/van. We’re also happy to organize transfers to your next destination or to the airport.
Renting a Tuk-Tuk?
It’s possible, but local traffic is demanding and accidents involving tourists do occur. Please consider your experience level and insurance coverage before self-driving. You need a special preit to drive a TukTuk.
Rent a Scooter
We can help you to rent a scooter. It will be delivered to the villa incl helmets. Prices from 2500-3500 / day. Depending on availability. Make sure you have a valid liscence.
Train (express vs. local)
Sri Lanka Railways runs Express services (faster; some with reserved/AC cars) and local/“slow” trains. When booking, choose train type and class carefully.
Example fare (Bentota → Galle): unreserved local from ~LKR 150–350; reserved/express typically ~LKR 1,200–2,600, depending on service and class.
Bus (local)
Buses along Galle Road are the cheapest option. For Bentota ↔ Galle, expect roughly ~LKR 150–300 (varies by bus class and distance). Be aware, it`s a rollercoaster ride.
Car & driver (day hire)
Typical 2025 day rates: US$60–90/day for a car; US$80–120/day for a minivan—usually including ~100 km, then ~US$0.50 per km thereafter (vehicle/operator dependent).
Self-drive & documents
Make sure you have a valid license. Regulation may change from one year to another.
Visa
Visa on Arrival or via Immigration website. Ask if you need assistence. Currently for many countries there is NO vida fee, but you aust apply online or on arrival.
Our lane (low lighting)
The small lane leading to our villa has limited public lighting, especially toward the end. Please use your phone’s flashlight, take a tuk-tuk, or ask us for a torch. We are working with the authorities to improve street lighting and Conditio. We hope to have success here.

Architecture & Design — The Bawa Legacy:
Sri Lanka’s most celebrated creative brothers, Geoffrey and Bevis Bawa, shaped the island’s modern architectural and landscape heritage.
Geoffrey Bawa, often called the father of tropical modernism, fused indoor and outdoor spaces with nature — his influence can be seen across Sri Lanka’s finest hotels and homes.
His brother Bevis Bawa, a former army officer turned landscape designer, created lush tropical gardens that became works of living art.
Their homes and creations around Bentota are a must-see for design and nature lovers:
- Lunuganga: Geoffrey Bawa’s enchanting country estate by the Bentota River, filled with sculptures, courtyards, and lake views.

Stroll to the pristine beach, just 100 meters away, for sun, sand, and sea therapy. Start your day with the perfect balance of calmness and energy enjoying a morning stroll or let the beautiful colors of the sunset in Sri Lanka's shores take your breath away and calm you to bed.
Boat Safari – Mangroves
Discover the calm beauty of the Bentota River on a peaceful two-hour boat journey through lush mangroves — best enjoyed in the early morning or late afternoon.
Along the way, you may spot crocodiles, monkeys, flying foxes, water monitors, snakes, and colorful tropical birds in their natural habitat.
Induruwa Turtle Farm
A small, family-run conservation center dedicated to protecting Sri Lanka’s sea turtles. Learn about the hatching process, see baby turtles ready for release, and rescued adults being cared for. Visits support local conservation efforts.
Kaikawala Pool Beach
A beautiful natural beach where locals gather to swim, especially on weekends and public holidays. Calm waters are protected by rocks, making it a safe place for bathing. Kande Viharaya Temple
Kande Viharaya is a historic Buddhist temple on a small hill in Aluthgama, founded in 1734. Its highlight is a towering 48 m seated Buddha—among the tallest of its kind in Sri Lanka. Visitors can explore the ancient stupa, relic chamber, and a Bodhi tree over 300 years old. Parts of the complex are government-protected for their archaeological value, and the temple remains an important place of worship and local heritage

A lovely spot for a relaxed day by the ocean — great location for a swim.

Stanley’s Hotspot – Authentic Sri Lankan Flavors
Stanley’s Hotspot is a truly local Sri Lankan eatery — simple, authentic, and full of character. While the place might look like it could use a bit of maintenance, don’t let appearances fool you. It can get very hot!
NOTE: Buy the dog a yoghurt on your way out. He loves it.

Surf lessons are available at Bentota Beach with local instructors. Conditions are best from December to May when the sea is calm and clear; during the monsoon season (May–November), waves can be stronger. Boards and teachers can be booked directly on the beach or ask us for recommendation.
Swan Rock:
A peaceful beach spot just south of Bentota, known for its scenic rocks and calm natural pools. Great for swimming, watching fishermen, or enjoying the sunset viewpoint and swimming spot. Careful the sea can be rough there, climb the rock and enjoy the view. Close to Monkey Garden Appartments.

Water sports:
Bentota is known as Sri Lanka’s water sports capital, offering everything from calm lagoon rides to ocean adventures. The Bentota River Lagoon provides ideal conditions for jet skiing, banana rides, kayaking, water skiing, windsurfing, and tube rides — safe and suitable for beginners as well as experienced riders.
The best season is December to May, when the sea is calm and clear. During the monsoon months (May–November), lagoon activities are still possible, but ocean sports may be limited depending on weather. Equipment and instructors are available at Bentota River and nearby beach centers, all within a few minutes from the villa.
DAY TRIP GALLE & HIKADUWA
Take a driver for the day and explore the southern coast at your own pace — stop wherever you like along the way.
Galle Fort
A UNESCO World Heritage Site first built by the Portuguese and later expanded by the Dutch. Today it’s a charming blend of history, art, and café culture — cobbled streets, colonial houses, boutiques, and beautiful ocean views. Perfect for a relaxed day of walking, shopping, and discovery. Don’t miss a coffee or ice cream at Isle of Gelato.
Hikkaduwa Beach
A lively seaside town known for snorkeling, sea turtles, and beach cafés right by the sand. Ideal for swimming, a coffee break, or a sunset walk along the coast. Try The CAKE for coffee, The Joint in Southwind for pizza, and browse Sea Solfor swimwear.
DAY TRIP TOWARDS RATNAPURA - CAVE, RIVER, RICE & CURRY
Head inland with your driver for a relaxing day away from the coast — lush countryside, fresh air, and a bit of nature and culture.
Start with a stop by a clear river suitable for a swim — cool water, jungle surroundings and a chance to refresh. After a dip, enjoy a hearty rice & curry lunch at a local eatery, something true to the region.
Then continue toward the foothills to visit the sacred cave temple of Batathota Lena (Cave) (also known as Divaguhawa). This cave, nestled in a calm wooded area about 15 km from Ratnapura, is believed to be a place where the Buddha himself rested. The day unfolds at your own pace: a refreshing swim, a simple local lunch, then a contemplative visit to an ancient cave-temple, before returning to the coast.

Dialog and SLT SIM cards are available locally, and a passport is required for registration. Best to get it at the airport on arrival.
Currency exchange
Exchange major currencies at Royal Pharmacy in Aluthgama. ATMs in Bentota and Aluthgama allow daily withdrawals of LKR 100,000–200,000.
Power cuts:
Short interruptions can happen unexpectedly; for longer scheduled outages we’ll notify you in advance.
Driving license
You can obtain a temporary local driving permit on arrival at the airport.
Wildlife awareness
Enjoy the beauty of Sri Lanka but remain cautious of wildlife, especially in dense areas where snakes and critters may reside. Roads can flood in heavy rain—use caution. Coconuts and fronds may fall unexpectedly—We keep them clean, but please be mindful after storm or heavy rains.

This facility is comfortable for expats or guests preferring private care, though as with all private care please check payment/insurance ahead of time.
Jeewa Medicare — Aluthgama Recommendation

It’s a convenient option for guests at Red Coconut Villa who may need a doctor’s consultation nearby. Walk in from 5pm, best to call in advance.
